Chapter Philanthropy

Our Chapter prides itself on the commitment to service of all of its members, through outreach programs in West Philadelphia, tutoring for underprivileged kids, volunteering abroad, and so much more. As a Chapter, some of our favorite events are our those we organize to benefit Sigma Kappa's National Philanthropies, including Inherit the Earth, the Maine Sea Coast Mission, and Gerontology Research with a specific goal of finding a cure for Alzheimer's Disease. We focus our fundraising efforts towards Sigma Kappa's Ultra Violet Campaign, which provides funding to SK's national initiatives along with leadership development, sisters in need, and education.

In the past year, we hosted a trunk show to raise money for the Maine Sea Coast Mission, participated in the Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer's, and volunteered at the Clyde F. Barker Organ Transplant House. We also held profit sharing nights with Insomnia Cookies, Sweetgreen, and Ben & Jerry's to benefit the Sigma Kappa Foundation and to raise money for our Relay for Life team.

In addition to these smaller projects, our Chapter hosts two major philanthropy events every year: Quizzo in the fall and the newly inaugurated Sigma Kappa Cookout in the spring. In 2015, our Quizzo trivia competition raised more than $2,500 for Alzheimer's Research, and we had tons of fun cheering on the teams that competed for awesome prizes, including tickets to see the Philadelphia 76ers and gift cards to campus restaurants.

Last Spring, we held our first ever Sigma Kappa Cookout with unlimited burgers, hot dogs, and grilled cheeses for everyone who purchased a wristband. We braved an unexpected April snowstorm and had a great time with friends from other Greek organizations, sports teams, and performing arts groups as we raised over $2,000 for Alzheimer's Research.
